Someone swiped my car last night and knocked off the driver side mirror.  The car isn't worth the $500 for the repairs, so this is very helpful!

I would rather pull 3 screws from the mirror mounting with a washer trough to the mirror casing and fasten it from behind the mirror.
Then you dont need metal bracket and epoxy glue, and it would look original withouth the ability to bend the mirror inwards.
Guess it would not work on all mirrors. But still it would work on alot of them, like the one you are working on.

Or if you have a laquered version and want it in original state you could get a cheep similar and just replace the mounting depending on what parts are broken, and use the original casing.
Thanx to my incredible safe neighbourhood and retarded youth, I have to replace mine this weekend :(

my entire assembly broke off [tree].  mirror and mount are still in one piece and look fine. mirror easily adjusts manually.  there were originally 3 screws and maybe a bit of glue attaching the mount to the car.  the screws broke off inside it and appear stuck in there for life.  what do you recommend I do to reattach the mount?  i live in Arizona so heat is a big consideration, and guess what: the car is black. I am holding my breath not to get a ticket. please help if you can.  thank you!

My car doesn't have a little support ledge to put the mending plate on. It broke off from the actual surface of the car. Any suggestions?

Thanks for this buddy. I was holding my broken side mirror on by a tightly wound ethernet cable, but doing this method allowed me to get a new job as a driver thanks to the vehicle looking less dodgy, now I'm close to getting a new car. Thanks a lot!
